Poetry

One of the most challenging yet brilliant forms of writing is poetry.  It requires a writer to choose the precise word or phrase to express an entire scene or complex emotion.  Langston Hughes happens to be one of my favorite poets. He could turn words into music simply through word choice and placement.  Here's one that always gets me thinking:

Dream Deferred
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore-
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over-
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

Come to our next meeting on Dec. 15th to share your favorite poem or snag some new ideas .  You may just find that one poem that speaks to you.  Oh, and of course, we'll have some snacks. ;)
